Happy Pride! When I started Dijo in 2010, I had one simple statement that is still the cornerstone of everything I do. Everybody deserves unconditional love. Many people don't know, but before Pride become a celebration, it was a protest. The Stonewall Inn, a bar located in the Greenwich Village neighbourhood of Manhattan, New York, served as a safe haven for the city’s gay, lesbian and transgender community. On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, at the time, homosexual acts were deemed illegal in almost every state. On this particular night, members of the LGBTQ community fought back. They lit the ignition of a movement that would see the slow growth of understanding, love and a little less bigotry. It has always been important to me to actively seek out opportunities to showcase diversity. Not just mimic social rhetoric, but actively support and foster the growth of unconditional love. For our last photoshoot, “No Woman Is One Thing,” we wanted to showcase women from all walks of life. So pride month gives us the perfect opportunity to introduce Simone & Caitlin, the couple who brought the sexy spark to our photoshoot. Caitlin, aka. Sailor Poon, is a blonde bombshell, roller-skating queen. Her bubbly, down-to-earth personality, made everyone feel amazing. She was given free license with her make-up and her talents speak for themselves. Get to know her with a few quick questions! Question: What's your occupation? Answer: Barista and disability support worker Question: What empowers you about being a woman? Answer: Sisterhood. When I was growing up it was girls competing against girls and tearing each other down, but there seems to be a shift in the group mentality these days. Women want to feel great and want to help each other feel great. It’s beautiful. Question: How did you come across Dijo Clothing and meet Sarah? Answer: I’m a sucker for a bargain, and I tried on this beautiful skirt on the sale rack and Sarah being Sarah started chatting away to me and it was just this instant vibe. I knew she wasn’t just telling me I looked gorgeous to try and sell me the skirt (still worked) but I knew she was genuine and we just continued chatting away. Question: What motivates you? Answer: Meeting interesting and like-minded people, travelling, and experiencing different cultures. Question: What's your favourite Dijo Clothing piece and why? Answer: My skirt, I met a new group of beautiful humans. How cool is that?! Meet Simone, our green-eyed beauty with an ethereal personality. During the photo shoot, she was open and willing to part-take in any crazy idea we had. She was down on the floor with rose petals, kissing fish and just generally being an absolute legend. Question: What's your occupation? Answer: Receptionist Question: What empowers you about being a woman? Answer: The support group you receive. Every woman knows some other woman with a similar experience and therefore somebody to talk to and rely on. Question: How did you come across Dijo Clothing and meet Sarah? Answer: Caitlin walked into the store to shop, started chatting with Sarah and left with a lovely skirt! After this Caitlin introduced us before the photo shoot and the rest is history ;) Question: What motivates you? Answer: Travel, culture, having a different environment every so often, excited for the new. Question: What's your favourite Dijo Clothing piece and why? Answer: Love my hat, it's the green one from the shoot! The experience from the photo shoot, and how welcoming and lovely everybody was. After the photoshoot, we shared laughs and said our goodbyes as Sailor and Simone were heading North in the next few days to explore more of Australia and then back home to visit the Netherlands. We wished them well and told them to continue to post pictures so we could follow their journey and what happened next was an even better surprise! On June 4th, we woke up to the best type of post…an engagement post from Sailor and Simone! #LoveIsLove but by golly we truly mean it! A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the happy couple, we wish you both the most love! XX Sare & The Dijo Family

  • Autumn, we welcome you...

Tips for better understanding the trickest season. It always seems to me that the turning of the seasons always comes on so rapidly. It is hard to imagine that for those in the North, it is already time to turn away from the light. I always find Autumn to be the most difficult of seasons. As someone that struggles to ‘Let it go; I have always found Autumn energies tricky to navigate. Autumn is the season of release, reflection, and slowing down. If Spring is all about abundance, Autumn is all about storing and preparing for the long Winter. The joyous feel of Summer gives way to the more introspective Autumn. Autumn is the end of the masculine Yang season and heralds the start of the feminine Ying energies. Days get shorter, nights get longer, and the wind gets colder. Realigning your Qi In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the dominant element associated with Autumn is Metal. The lung is the organ in the body that is associated with Metal, and Wood is the affected element (liver organ). The colour is white, the emotion is grief, the nature is Ying and the body is all about the lungs and the breath. It is a time of harvest, to collect our stores, including our physical strength, and begin to ease towards hibernation. Metal, which governs organization, order, communication, the mind, setting limits, and protecting boundaries, is dominating your spirit. Just like nature loses her leaves, we must let go of anything that does not serve our higher purpose. The lung is responsible for taking in the news. This manifests physically as breathing in the clean, crisp air, filling us with the oxygen we need to think clearly, and our bodies to function optimally. The Yang element of the lung is the large intestine which is responsible for letting go of the waste. It is the last stage of digestion, and takes everything the body doesn’t, and releases it, only keeping what is vital and important for us to function. If you enjoyed this poem, it was a scripture taken from a portion of my book, A Goddess For All Seasons. If you would like to purchase a copy, please click the link here! Namaste! Sare x
